Vessel Degassing for Turnarounds: Pressure Vessels, Bullets, and Exchangers.

Process vessels are the critical path on a turnaround, and the degassing wait before entry is where days go. Hasten Cleanse is a water-based concentrate that circulates or sprays into the vessel, bonds to the hydrocarbon film, suppresses the vapor it generates, and lifts the film for removal. Nothing flammable goes in, and the wash water goes to the plant as non-hazardous.

How the Vapor Comes Down

Flammable vapor comes off the liquid hydrocarbon left in a tank. Ventilation dilutes the vapor. Hasten Cleanse goes after the source.

Bonds to the hydrocarbon

Surfactants and fatty acids attach to the residue and the free product on walls, floor, and in sludge.

Raises the flash point

Bound hydrocarbon vaporizes more slowly. Less vapor is generated in the first place, so LEL and VOC readings fall rather than being blown out.

Lifts the residue

The same wash that suppresses vapor lifts the residue into a water suspension for the vac truck. Cleaning and degassing happen together.

Adds nothing flammable

Water-based, no flash point. Nothing in the tank got more dangerous because of the product.

Where It Is Applied

Pressure vessels and drums

Circulate at 1:20, or fill and soak where circulation is not practical.

NGL and LPG bullets

Spray or circulate; vapor suppression is the primary job.

Exchanger shells with hydrocarbon film

Circulate. Note: it lifts hydrocarbon film. It does not remove scale or fouling; that is a different chemistry.

Columns and towers

Spray trays and walls during washdown.

What Hasten Cleanse does not do

It is not a solvent and not a caustic. It will not dissolve, melt, or strip material that is physically bonded or baked onto a surface: scale, rust, hardened deposits, coatings. It lifts hydrocarbons, oil, grease, crude, sludge, and paraffin, by emulsifying them, and it needs agitation, circulation, pressure, or heat to do that work. If your problem is a stuck-on solid rather than a hydrocarbon film or residue, tell us and we will say so.

Vessel Degassing Questions, Answered Straight

Does it remove exchanger scale or fouling?

No. It lifts hydrocarbon film only. Scale and fouling need a different chemistry or mechanical cleaning.

Sour service?

Customers report H2S dropping with LEL and VOC, and it handles iron sulfide residue. Pyrophoric precautions still apply.

Is it a substitute for steaming?

Some customers use it instead of, others alongside. Ask for a side-by-side on one vessel.

Flammable?

No. Water-based, no flash point.

Wash water?

Non-hazardous, and the fatty-acid base feeds the plant's biology. No added bacteria.
